In a star-making performance, Jeremy Allen White plays the fine-dining chef returning from New York to his native Chicago to take over his family's sandwich shop following the suicide of his brother. So it's surprising that there hasn't been a top-flight restaurant-centred show – ok, Bob's Burgers aside – until this June, when Hulu production The Bear premiered in the US and quickly became the breakout hit of the summer. Davis also revealed that many of her costume ideas did not make the final cut of the film, leaving some unexplained characters such as Zoë Bell's tracker, who was intended to drop her bandana to reveal an absent jaw.Given the literal and metaphorical heat inside a restaurant kitchen, it would seem to be a perfect crucible for drama. King Schultz's fake chinchilla coat was inspired by Telly Savalas in Kojak (1973). Davis said the idea of Calvin Candie's costume came partly from Rhett Butler, and that Don Johnson's signature Поліція Маямі (1984) look inspired Big Daddy's cream-colored linen suit in the film. In the final scene, Broomhilda wears a dress similar to that of Evelyn Stewart's character in Un dollaro bucato (1965). Davis used Thomas Gainsborough's 1770 oil painting The Blue Boy as a reference for Django's valet outfit. Django's sunglasses were inspired by Charles Bronson's character in Білий бізон (1977). Davis described Django's look as a "rock-n-roll take on the character". The pair even hired the hatmaker who designed the hat worn by Little Joe. For Django's wardrobe, Davis and Quentin Tarantino watched Bonanza (1959), and referred to it frequently. In a January 2013 interview with Vanity Fair, costume designer Sharen Davis said much of the film's wardrobe was inspired by spaghetti westerns and other works of art.
